In our ongoing efforts to enhance our profilesystems and validate their fire protection properties, we conduct fire tests at accredited fire institutes. In such tests, we install a section or a door in a wall according to a specified layout, which is then placed against a furnace simulating a fire. The furnace is activated, and the temperature rapidly increases following a standard curve. After just 5 minutes, the temperature reaches nearly 600 degrees, and after 60 minutes, it reaches approximately 950 degrees.
How long can a steel section withstand a fire test? Unfortunately, we don’t have the answer. The following example is a fire test where the goal was EI260, i.e., 60 minutes with temperature requirements.
The EI260 requirement was met after 60 minutes, and the test continued to see what would happen. After 180 minutes (3 hours), the test was stopped with a satisfactory result for EW180. Here, you can witness evidence of the strength of our profile systems against fire with the right choice of glass. We are confident that the test could have continued for quite some time.
